Nineteen volunteers were honored at Mayfair Manor at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Reception on April 8. The guest speaker was Deanna Franklin, former Mayfair ombudsman and current Volunteer Coordinator for the Nursing Home Ombudsman Agency of the Bluegrass. Administrator Renee Martin and Activities Director Suzy Rupp welcomed and thanked all volunteers for their service and dedication. All volunteers received gifts and a certificate of recognition. The 2014 Outstanding Volunteer is Janet Rodgers, who is at Mayfair every day and helps with everything from bringing residents to activities to assisting with outings. Mayfair is extremely fortunate to have many volunteers who help with outings, bingo, pet therapy, morning exercise, ice cream socials, computer and IT assistance, church and religious services, monthly organ music, arts and crafts, and flowering and gardening programs. Activities Director Suzy Rupp stated that “our volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart! And, Mayfair’s volunteers get PAID!! They are paid in six figures: S-M-I-L-E-S!!” Volunteers who attended the reception included Kayla Brackman, Deanna Franklin, Conrad Gutermuth, Sydney Hobbs, Russell Huffman, Rev. Carl Jones, Melodye Kinkead, Dr. John Landon, Kennie Logan, Orlee Moore, Jeff Morgan, Sally Morgan, Judy Philpott, Rev. and Mrs. Steve Richmond, Deanna Rigney, Goedela Robbins, Janet Rodgers, Bob Rupp, Elizabeth Slone, Ruth Ann Storrow, and Teresa Williams. Two volunteers renewed old acquaintances: Sally Morgan, who plays the piano, was Elizabeth Slone’s (“Love on a Leash” Pet Therapy volunteer) second grade teacher!
