Last Friday, Mayfair Manor hosted a birthday bash for the ages – ages 100 and up.
About 90 people attended Mayfair’s ‘Centennial Celebration’ honoring patients from several area nursing homes who have celebrated centennial birthdays. Patients and staff from Signature’s Mayfair Manor, Bluegrass Care & Rehab, Fountain Circle Health & Rehab and Signature HealthCARE of Georgetown were in attendance, along with other family members and guests.
Other centers to attend included Cambridge Place Nursing Home, Homestead Nursing & Rehab, Lexington Country Place, Northpoint Healthcare Center, Pine Meadows Health Care, Richmond Place, Sayre Christian Village and Tanbark Health Care. Honorees represented nearly 620 years of life experience.
Attendees were treated to cake and other refreshments, along with entertainment courtesy of jazz trio Pat Geary & Co. The program also included opening remarks from Mayfair Administrator Renee Martin, a prayer by facility Chaplain Jesse Baldridge and a reading of the poem ‘A Matter of Mind, as well as fun facts about what was happening ‘100 Years Ago in America,’ by Quality of Life Director Suzy Rupp, who organized the party.
Each centenarian received a corsage, a Starbucks commemorative teddy bear, a balloon and a handmade beaded bracelet.
“This was one of the best celebrations of life and accomplishments we’ve had!” said Dr. Richard Gift, a Mayfair Manor patient, retired University of Kentucky economics professor and Senior Olympian.
Lexington Mayor Jim Gray also attended. For a photo gallery, visit the Lexington Herald Leader’s website by clicking HERE.
